Subject Highlights

Music at HKBUAS is distinguished by a balanced curriculum that develops practical musicianship alongside creative and critical thinking. In the junior years, students sing accurately in unison and in parts—including in third languages such as French, German, and Spanish—and are highly encouraged to develop instrumental skills, write simple melodies with accompaniment and use notation software to create music. In the senior years, students perform music accurately and fluently across different styles, discuss and defend personal interpretations, and create, develop, and arrange musical ideas using appropriate compositional devices. The subject strongly emphasises critical listening, cultural understanding, and aesthetic sensitivity, enriched through analysis of diverse musical genres and styles across historical and cultural contexts.
