Mathematics

Overview

Our curriculum strives to build strong mathematical knowledge and essential problem-solving skills in every student. In Junior Grades, the curriculum follows the syllabus recommended by the Education Bureau (EDB). From Grade 10, all students study the Mathematics Compulsory Part under the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) curriculum as part of the Integrated Mathematics Curriculum, while more capable students can choose to study the Extended Part (Module 1 or Module 2) depending on their interest and ability.

Curriculum Goals

Phase Curriculum Goals
Junior Secondary
  • Build strong mathematical knowledge and enhance numeracy and problem-solving skills across Number and Algebra; Measures, Shape and Space; and Data Handling, based on the syllabus recommended by the Education Bureau (EDB).
  • Apply mathematical knowledge to real-world scenarios through Theme-based Learning (TBL) hands-on projects conducted throughout the academic year.
  • Recognize the practical utility and value of mathematics in everyday life.
Senior Secondary
  • Complete the HKDSE Mathematics Compulsory Part under the Integrated Mathematics Curriculum, consolidating and extending mathematical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Offer the Extended Part (Module 1 or Module 2) for more capable students to delve deeper into advanced mathematics and strengthen their readiness for university programmes.
  • Develop the critical thinking and logical reasoning essential for fields such as science, engineering, economics, and technology.

Subject Highlights

Mathematics at HKBUAS fosters a culture of high expectations and equitable access, ensuring meaningful learning experiences for every student. Teachers continuously monitor student progress and refine instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs and maximize learning outcomes. In line with the EDB's promotion of mathematical modelling, Theme-based Learning (TBL) allows students to apply their subject knowledge to real-world scenarios. In the senior years, students engage with the HKDSE Compulsory Part and may choose either Module 1 (Calculus and Statistics) or Module 2 (Algebra and Calculus) of the Extended Part, preparing them well for university programmes.
