Integrated Science

Overview

Our Junior Integrated Science curriculum aims to nurture curiosity, scientific literacy and a spirit of innovation. Through the study of biology, chemistry, physics and earth science, students build scientific knowledge and inquiry skills to explain natural phenomena and address everyday problems. The curriculum connects science with technology, society and the environment, preparing students for further study and lifelong learning.

Curriculum Goals

Phase Curriculum Goals
Junior Secondary
  • Sustain curiosity and interest in science, and develop an understanding of scientific concepts and the nature of science.
  • Develop inquiry skills through observation, measurement, fair testing, data analysis and evidence-based reasoning.
  • Use scientific language, models, tables and graphs to explain ideas and communicate findings clearly.
  • Integrate knowledge across disciplines to solve real-life problems creatively and collaboratively.
  • Build critical thinking, scientific integrity and safe working habits, while respecting life and the environment.

Subject Highlights

Scientific inquiry and cross-disciplinary connections are central to Junior Integrated Science. Practical investigations develop scientific reasoning, experimenting and data-processing skills. Scientific modelling, engineering design and discussion of socio-scientific issues connect classroom learning with real-world challenges. Across topics such as living things, matter and energy, forces, electricity, Earth and space, students learn to evaluate evidence, collaborate on solutions and consider the effects of science and technology on health, society and environmental sustainability.

The school aims to provide students with a variety of learning experiences both within and beyond the classroom, helping them appreciate the beauty of nature and discover the fun of science. Activities such as the G7 Life Wide Learning Day, G8 STEAM Outing and STEAM Weeks offer opportunities to explore science in different settings. Participation in competitions such as the International Junior Science Olympiad – Hong Kong Screening also encourages students to extend their scientific knowledge and challenge themselves.
