We are thrilled to announce that our school has been officially honored with the prestigious Pearl Ambassador Award by Pearl Professor, A sustainable pearl education initiative by Perlenfustek Ltd!

This recognition celebrates the remarkable success of our interdisciplinary pilot project, the Sustainable P.E.A.R.L. Education (SPE) Scheme. Jointly conceptualized and executed through a synergy between the Life Education Team, the Science Department, and Christian Education, this program inspired our Grade 7 students (7GA4 cohort) and 4 Pearl Ambassadors from senior grades (11E POON Ching, 10D NARAYANAN Vishwa, 10B LAM Sum Yin Amelia and LAU Ka Ki Sophia) to turn scientific inquiry into real-world environmental action.

What does P.E.A.R.L. stand for?

The project seamlessly integrates scientific learning with five core affective values:

- Preservation — Safeguarding marine ecosystems and biodiversity.

- Empathy — Caring for living organisms and our natural environment.

- Appreciation of Life — Understanding the beauty and value of natural processes.

- Resilience — Overcoming challenges through scientific inquiry and innovation.

- Lifelong Learning — Developing a mindset of continuous growth and stewardship.

The Hidden Curriculum: Faith, Value & Resilience in Every Pearl

Beyond scientific discovery and eco-friendly innovation, the true heart of this project lies in its hidden Christian Education curriculum, which was seamlessly embedded throughout the teaching and learning journey, leaving our students deeply touched and inspired:

Precious in God’s Eyes: Just as a pearl is rare and tenderly formed, students reflected on how infinitely God values, loves, and cherishes each of His beloved children.

A Story of Resilience & Transformation: A pearl oyster must endure discomfort, irritation, and hurt first before it can yield a lustrous, precious pearl. This natural wonder served as a profound life lesson in resilience—teaching students that through life's trials and pain, faith, perseverance, and grace can transform hardship into beauty and strength.

Called as Global Stewards: As God's servants and global stewards, we are entrusted with the sacred calling to safeguard Mother Earth, care for creation, and actively protect our natural environment.

Highlights of Our Sustainable Pearl Journey

Hands-On In-School Cultivation: Students maintained an indoor laboratory eco-tank (Room 602) to cultivate live pearl oysters, gaining first-hand experience in water quality testing, biomineralization, and marine restoration.

Rigorous Coursework & Dissection: Over 6 hours of structured lessons brought marine biology, environmental stewardship, and SDGs to life. Students participated in oyster dissections to harvest cultured pearls while exploring the ecological role of oysters as natural water filters.

Circular Economy & Brand Innovation: Embracing upcycling principles, student teams utilized harvested pearls and shells as core materials to design innovative eco-friendly brands and creative products.

STEAM Week Showcase Day: During lunch recess on the opening day of STEAM Week, 8 student groups presented their prototypes and sustainable brand concepts. Over 20 teachers and members of the Senior Management Team visited the interactive booths to vote and show enthusiastic support.

Recognitions Achieved

A-School is honored with the Pearl Ambassador Award with such an attempt to promote such an interdisciplinary pilot project. This distinction is a testament to the school having successfully achieved and surpassed all project criteria:

1. In-School Cultivation: Successfully cultivating pearls within the school premises, providing students with invaluable hands-on scientific experience.

2. Academic Dedication: Conducting over 6 hours of rigorous coursework dedicated to the core values of Sustainable Pearl Education.

3. Circular Economy Practices: Demonstrating creativity and eco-consciousness by upcycling pearls and shells into innovative new products.

4. Community Advocacy: Actively presenting key findings, research, and project results to stakeholders within the school community to broaden the impact of the initiative.
