Language Environment
Here in A-School, we believe that languages are becoming more and more important in an increasingly connected world. A-School students pride themselves on fluent use of English and Putonghua. Our students and teachers make use of the medium of instruction - Putonghua for Chinese lessons, Cantonese for Liberal Arts lessons and English for all other subjects. Being an EMI school, students get extensive exposure to spoken and written English through a myriad of activities. Students in Middle School have the added advantage of learning a modern foreign language choosing from either Spanish, Japanese, German or French taught by native speakers of the language. The language environment is strengthened by an abundance of resources available all around the campus, such as class libraries with books of all languages taught in school. A variety of activities such as Language Day, English Week and Chinese Week ensure intrinsic motivation for use of accurate language is high. In addition to that, language schemes such as use of language stamps given by teachers promotes high adherence to use of English and Putonghua. Students can collect language stamps in order to gain prizes, certificates and preference for language excursions. Overseas trips such as the Australia Immersion Trip enable students to have an authentic experience, not just in use of language in context, but also to learn about the culture associated with a language.
