Reaching Our Community: A-Musicians Off-campus Music Performances

News date

The school provides valuable performance opportunities to our choirs through serving the community, enriching members’ experiences while enlivening the local arts scene. As the festive season draws nearer, our A-Musicians infused the neighbourhood and A-School community with melodic music of seasonal celebration.

To kick-off, 17 members of our music teams were invited to perform Christmas tunes and carols at the Prince of Wales Hospital on December 14, 2023 in front of an enthusiastic audience of hospital staff, patients, and family members, and honoured presence of Sha Tin District Commissioner Yu Wai-sing, Director of the New Territories East Hospital Cluster and Hospital Chief Executive of Prince of Wales Hospital Dr. Chung Kin-Lai. The performance culminated on a high and cheerful note with the audience singing along to the well-known Christmas carol, O Come, All Ye Faithful. The joy, peace, and love of music truly filled the air and transformed the tense atmosphere of the hospital.

The following day soared even higher. The Secondary Division Handbell Team, A-Singers, Chamber Boys' Choir, Orchestra, Wind Band, and String Orchestra performed at the Hong Kong Baptist University Faculty and Staff Assembly, alongside the HKBU Staff Choir. The festive event was attended by the HKBU Chaplain Rev. Hung Tse. As Rev. Tse said during his closing remark, the pure and innocent musical expressions of our students in praising God were admirable. Indeed, it was such a special and memorable experience to perform at the University Chapel with a sacred atmosphere and exquisite acoustics.

The heavenly tunes of A-Musicians travelled in the piercingly cold weather. The Sha Tin Culture and Arts Promotion Committee and the Tao Fong Shan Youth Culture Tour invited our choir to perform Christmas carols and sacred choral music at Tao Fong Shan, both in a historic chamber and under the signature landmark on December 23, 2023. 21 members of our A-Singers braved the cold and sang with all their heart and soul. Their angelic voices not only filled the hills with resounding harmony, but they also brought warmth and joy to everyone attending the event.  What a unique way to end our music performances in 2023 with much anticipation for more wonderful performances in 2024!
