Mock School Day

News date

Last week, our sixth graders had the opportunity to taste what life in the secondary school would be like during our Mock School Day. They met the leadership team from secondary school who welcomed them and briefed them about the rundown. Then they were off to experience lessons in subjects that will be new to them such as Integrated Humanities, Chinese History, ICL, and Science Lab lessons. The students were completely engrossed in extracting DNA from strawberries in the lab lessons. They managed to impress the ICL teachers with their speed and skill in picking up concepts and working on GIF Animation. The Chinese History lessons introduced the biography of some famous historical figures  and the students were deeply attracted by the heroic events. Map reading skills taught in the Integrated Humanities lesson had them captivated. The students felt very grown-up and responsible as they managed their own time moving between lessons and using the short recess time to buy snacks from the canteen. An engaging STEAM exhibition in the atrium vied for their attention and many could be seen looking at the displays with wonder. The Visual Arts workshop too saw them engaged in artistic pursuits.

The end of the day saw them being introduced to the various leadership opportunities and clubs that they can join in secondary school. Student leaders had a chat with them, introducing all the fun and exciting activities coming up. There were exclamations of delight heard when the student leaders showed photographs of A-School’s Got Talent, a talent competition held annually in the secondary section.

“We can’t wait to get to secondary school!” was the general sentiment at the end of a wonderful day! Our heartfelt thank you to all the teachers involved in making our students feel comfortable and preparing such wonderful activities and lessons for them.
